The tracks were incredibly smudged and crossed over each other. Apart from the fact that they seemed to have been made by large rodent feet, no other information could be gleaned from them.
The porthole had been crudely hammered into place. A bloody paw print stained one of the boards.
The ship offered nothing except the same. The Chosen left the bloody stinking hulk for cleaner air. Their only lead remained the cryptic letter. It would have to be translated. A potential translator was a whisperer and alchemist named Kassandra, a bubbly blonde who worked and resided in the lower levels of the Ruler's Palace.

Leliana sighs slightly. "I suppose we should go talk to Kassandra, then. Maybe she could try to translate what's left of this letter. "

Back at the Ruler's Palace, the Chosen were admitted through a heavy stone door into the lower levels. The air was thick and stuffy and carried with it the stench of damp and mold. The sole sources of illumination were guttering wall sconce mounted torches. Their shadows scraped along the wall as they made their way further down a long hallway.
A dull boom echoed in the distance and dust sprinkled from the ceiling.
The door to Kassandra's laboratory was propped open, allowing strong dark sapphire blue fumes to come out. They stank of burnt metal and garlic and left an oily and gritty feel in the throat. Muffled swears streamed out of the laboratory. The alchemist, wearing a specially constructed apron and hood, was growling curses at the remnants of some apparatus. It was mostly unrecognizable: it, and the table it had been resting on, had become red hot goop.
Two apprentice alchemists were hurriedly dumping pailfuls of cold sand upon the melted remnants of the alchemical apparatus. This was the cause of the strange smoke.

"Agh, Kassandra, what fantastic experiment did you come up with this time?" Leonid waved away the fumes coming out of the room before he stepped into the laboratory, mysterious letter in hand.

"You can take your bloody sarcasm and shove it, Northman." She snarled.
"I was evaluating a fire sprite." She explained, her tone softening slightly. "Damn thing got a little out of hand." Behind her, a half melted chandelier lost its grip on its supporting chain and plunged to the ground with a large bang. "Everything's under control"

Fionn looks slightly concerned, and Leliana looks amused. Kian looks at Kassandra with an awed interest.

"Well?" She slipped her mask off and tossed it unceremoniously onto a wobbly table. "What did you want?"

"Couldn't find a lover this time, so you decided to make one yourself, eh?" He said, looking over at the remains of the sprite.
Leonid handed her the letter, clearly annoyed that he had to go through her to get this translated.

"This is all we found while we were investigating the ship, and if I can't understand it, you're all we got," he said with some resignation.

Kassandra glanced at the paper and placed it down on the table with a disgusted expression. "Looks like you dug this out of a rubbish pile, not a ship."
"It looks a little familiar but I can't make heads or tails of it. Give me a few days and I'll get back to you." She continued. "Now, unless you have anything else for me, I have cleaning to do." She turned away and bent down and started to pick through the remains of a shelf of reagents.

The next morning a messenger came for Leonid and Leliana. He did not from Kassandra, however. He carried another letter. It read:
There has been a murder at a house near the ports. Investigate.

The small squad of chosen was only able to rest and train for a little bit before the message came, and it arrived much earlier than he expected. Murders happened at the docks almost every day, so this must've had something to do with the galley.
After packing his gear, he went after Leliana and her brothers to the docks.

Leliana glances at Leo. "Do you think this has anything to do with those rats?"
